Winter Weekend

All Junior and Senior High youth are invited to join us January 23-25 for our annual winter retreat. We'll escape to a slightly more remote area (where it's cold enough that we have the chance of snow) to appreciate the beauty of the mountains, form new bonds within the youth group, relax, play games, and continue on our spiritual faith journeys. Our theme this year will be "Totally Twisted Priorities!" We will reconsider our own life priorites as we study what the book of Ecclesiastes has to say about what's really important in life. This winter we are returning to Camp Wrightwood, a camp run by the United Methodist Church, tucked away in the small town of Wrightwood in the San Gabriel Mountains.

Why participate? Winter Weekend is a weekend filled with adventure and excitement! It is a great chance to "get away from it all" and enjoy the peace of the mountains in the company of friends. You will meet new people, create tons of new memories, hopefully throw a snowball or two, eat some good old-fashioned home-cooked meals, and celebrate our faith together. We will be thoughtful, joyful, inspirational, rambunctious, playful...need I go on? There is a place for everyone!

Here are the details:

We'll leave about 4 p.m. on Friday, January 23 and return early afternoon on Sunday, January 25. A $100 registration fee includes transportation, meals at camp, and lodging (in cabins). Please bring additional money with you for dinner on the way up. Our tradition is to stop and In-N-Out Burger.

You must complete and return the permission slip and the health/medical form with your payment (check payable to RUMC) no later than Sunday January 4, 2009. If you have already completed the health form, you do not need to resubmit it unless your insurance or emergency contact information has changed.

Youth Alive

Once again, the Senior High youth of the United Methodist Church are gathering over Presidents' Weekend to discover how they can be disciples of Jesus Christ. This amazing retreat is called "Youth Alive" and it takes place February 14-16 at the Riverside Convention Center and Marriott Hotel.

The 2009 theme is "Diakonos: How May I Serve You?" Diakonos is a Greek word used in the New Testament that means "service." Did you ever think this might be the question Christians ought to be asking? This year's Youth Alive event is focused on helping youth be servants for Christ in the world, and will provide concrete ways to be in service.

Of course, the event will have all of the great things you've come to expect: amazing music (worship bands), challenging workshops and Bible studies, inspiring worship and speakers, and great friends/good times. More information can be found in this brochure.

Youth must currently be enrolled in grades 9 through 12. The cost ranges from $215 for four people per room to $250 for two people per room, which includes all lodging for two nights and some meals. Registrations are due in the RUMC church office by December 15. Please let Lynn know if you plan to attend or have any questions. Don't miss out!

Youth Music Ensemble

All youth musicians in grades 6-12 are invited to be part of this exciting new program directed by Cory Johnson. The group performs in musical styles selected by its members and the director. Rehearsals are 3 Sundays per month, after church, with a monthly performance in the church service. Please speak to Cory or Lynn if you have questions or would like to join us.

Youth Café

Join us Sunday mornings at 9:00 in the downstairs youth lounge for a time to share joys and concerns and read the morning scripture. Oh, and did we mention the donuts? Come see what the fun is all about!
